BACKGROUND
More than 90% of secondary teachers say students have disengaged through online school
The pandemic has unleashed a whirlwind of change to schools everywhere, causing most classrooms to go fully online without much thought to the long-term challenges. Students are still in need of a high-quality education that allows them to meaningfully engage with their teachers and peers while be able to focus on educational contents.
HYPOTHESIS
If TikTok made learning contents more prominent and authentic; it would allow students to find learning engaging while strengthen the learning environment between peers and teachers.
Since the pandemic started in 2020, I often found myself spending hours on TikTok without even noticing it. As dangerous as that sounded for my digital well-being, I also learned a lot of tips, hacks, history lessons,… from this app; then I also started hearing from my friends “Yeah, I learned that from TikTok.” Therefore, when I learned that students were facing challenging to focus on lecture videos, I immediately saw the opportunity within TikTok due to many reasons.
WHAT IS TIKTOK?
The Hottest App on the Planet
TikTok is a social media app that allows users to create and edit up to 60 seconds videos. Over 800 million active users all over world find the appealing to their short attention span, plus the music, new trends, memes,… make Tiktok a unique and very niched app.
Before I started to dive in-depth into TikTok design system, I set some design goals that would direct my final solution on the right track. Here are some design goals:

All new ✨TikTok Learn✨feature provides an authentic space that is full of engaging micro-lessons from verified educators. It also allow limited access to the classroom students and teachers only; so everyone can enjoy creating and learning videos without any privacy concern.
